1 - What is WebHosting Prospector?
WebHosting Prospector offers web hosting companies and other online solution providers a powerful way to reach business prospects and research clients by making the connection between their off-line and on-line presence. Each of our business record holds the complete e-business profile of a company, allowing decision-makers and marketers to target and analyze businesses based on detailed information such as the company e-commerce capabilities, web hosting usage, and other strategic information.
WebHosting Prospector provides through its domain lookup service the detailed e-business profiles of over 9.6 million web sites. With the power search you can find the web sites that meet your specific hosting criteria and also get business information on over 2 million web site owners. These data services are offered via subscription packages. Part of the data is also available on limited basis for free together with web statistics and daily news coverage of the web hosting industry.
2 - How do you collect your business information?
WebHosting Prospector relies on the web information extraction technology from Generate Inc (www.generateinc.com) to provide accurate business data harvested from the Web. The Generate Extractor (US Patent No. 6,694,307) gathers key marketing and web technical information on all North American businesses with an active corporate web site. This allows WebHosting Prospector to provide direct access to the largest database of web-harvested business information on the market. We also append data from external sources to complement parts of our database and offer you more complete business records. To prevent unsolicited email (spam), WebHosting Prospector does not provide any email addresses.
3 - How often is the information updated?
We take pride in providing you with the most accurate information on companies and their web sites, this is why we update our online database every month.
4 - What kind of information is available with an annual subscription?
View our e-business profile  for detailed information about all our business fields. You can also consult the subscription package comparison table to view what data is available for each subscription level. Because of the nature of web information extraction, it is possible that all the information is not available for a given company record.
If you perform a power search or a domain lookup, you access a database that covers all the active North American web sites (including .com, .ca, .org., .net) in English (over 9.6 million profiles) including business information on 2 million web site owners and 2.3 million business executives at these companies.
Each web site data card is divided in 4 main sections:

Summary:
This section includes the meta description of the web site, the contacts, and the company's industry description (SIC code), number of employees and sales volume, if available. An overview of the company e-business profile is also provided to help you assess this business lead.

Hosting profile:
This profile provides the web hosting information including the type of web hosting used and the hosting provider. Detailed information relating to the web server, the IP address, and the domain name server are also included in this section.

Web site profile:
Provides the information about the web presence of each company including web site characteristics such as the site's size, complexity, popularity, and maintenance level.

Content & technologies:
This last section describes the type of content provided on the company’s web site and the technologies used to deliver this content. It identifies if the site has e-commerce capabilities, if audio or video files are present and the types of server and client side technologies used.

7 - How can I conduct searches to find the information I am looking for?
With WebHosting Prospector you can perform simple domain name lookup (located in the upper right corner of the site) or elaborate power search queries. The domain lookup provides all the information pertaining to the company and its web site. It includes information such as the name of the company owning the web site, address, phone, and its complete e-business profile. The Power Search allows you to get targeted lists of companies' headquarters meeting specific market criteria such as business location, hosting type used, web server types, e-commerce capabilities etc. Because of the nature of web information extraction, it is possible that all the information is not available for a given company record.
8 - What are the specialized lists in the power search?
The specialized lists provide you with ways to target specific businesses based on the type of activities they performed online. These lists include:

9 - In the power search, what does it mean to search by hosting provider, IP address, or domain name server?
The search by hosting provider allows you to find the current direct clients of a given web hosting company, subsidiary or resseller. Simply type the name of a hosting company or domain and a list will suggest a number of matching hosting businesses to select from. By un-checking the ‘Direct clients only’ checkbox, all the clients that deal with an intermediary (e.g., a web hosting reseller) are also included in the results.
The search by IP address permits to get information on all the active web sites on a given North American IP address. A search for all the web sites on blocks of IP addresses can also be performed. By selecting from the list box the name of a company block owner you will get detailed information about all the web sites residing on its IP blocks.
The search by domain name server (DNS) permits to find the Internet domains that are served by a given DNS. The search by DNS or by IP block owners offers alternative ways to find the clients of a hosting provider.
10 - Why do I sometimes get no search results?
You could get no results because your search query is too specific with too many criteria leading to no business match. Try also to avoid unlikely combinations such as requesting web server type Windows IIS together with OS type Linux (there is no version of IIS for Linux).
11 - How can I download my list of sales leads and in what format can I get it?
In your search result page, simply click of the ‘Download this list’ button to export a list of prospects into your sales automation software or Microsoft Excel. All downloaded lists are formatted in comma separated values (csv) which is compatible with most contact management software.
12 - What is included in a list I download?
Each list you download corresponds to the results of your search query up to a maximum of 5,000 records (20,000 for Premium accounts). When you download a list you get all the data card information on all the sites that match your search query.
13 - Can I download a prospect list without subscribing to your services?
No, you have to be a Pro or Premium subscriber.
14 - Do you offer email addresses?
